“please slow it down / there’s a secret magic past world that you only notice when you’re looking back at it” –rocky votolato, “white daisy passing”
I’m always so inspired by the magic of the mundane. The wonder of the ordinary. The beauty of the everyday.
It was such a joy and honor to document this family that I love so much in their own cozy home. Photographing people in their natural element is one of my most favorite things. Especially with kids, it unleashes a comfort and freedom that isn’t often experienced in other settings. My goal through this session, and any other like it, is to create images that tell a true story. To help my subjects see themselves in normal moments and realize that those moments are beautiful, and are what life is made out of. Those life stages that are a little gritty, a little messy, a little blurry, but full of SO much love… those are the memories that we look back on fondly, and long for once they’re gone. My hope is that no matter how many years have passed, or how much has changed, my images place my clients back in those moments. That when this family looks at these photos years from now, their heart swells up and they breathe a sigh mixed with love and nostalgia, and think “ahh, that was home.”
